Heidi Duncanson has created a Vineyard Sailing Camp alumni group on Facebook. Check it out. A lot of campers and counselors of yesteryear re-connecting.
Hi Sue Rapple, I enjoyed only one year (1981)at the wonderful VSC and still regret that it closed. I wish I could send my daughter there!
I was a sailing instructor and, as the camp closed, purchased Tramontana. I have taken care of this wonderful boat and sailed it all over the Vineyard and New England. I would like to know if anyone knows where the other gems are. I never see any.
Margie Hellman, former counselor, and I sailed my big boat over to the Vineyard this past summer. She's doing well, has a great family, and lives in Sydney Australia.
Sorry I've taken forever responding to your post. I know 3 VSCers who bought Gems -- Carol Davis bought Ora, Polly Patterson bought Pompero (I think) and Dawn Pars bought one too.
Hello everyone, I was a sailing instructot the summers of 1973 and 1974. I would love to hear from others. A facebook friend posted a photo of the "park" which caused me to use google and found this blog.
I went to VSC in 1970; I still sing Vineyard Wind every time I walk into a Vineyard Vines store. I was there the summer of a very bad N'oreaster, and my parents had come up from NY on our 32 ft sailboat to pick me up. We ended up sheltering in Lagoon Pond through a very scary night. What a way to end my Vineyard Sailing summer! I have very fond memories of that place. Malerie Yolen-Cohen
Hello VSCers, Did you go to Vineyard Sailing Camp on Lagoon Pond? If so, when? What unit were you in? Who were your friends? Do you remember your counselors? Do you remember any camp songs? Are you still sailing today? What is your favorite memory?
As I'm sure you know, sadly VSC closed its doors for good in 1981 after Patriots Trail Girls Scouts made the decision to sell the property. It was sold to the Town of Oak Bluffs, and they haven't changed it much. While the tent platforms and all of the out-buildings have been removed, the Mainstay is still there, and is used by the town for all sorts of functions. And, they run a community sailing program from the beach on the Lagoon.
The spirit of VSC is still alive today in the hundreds of campers and counselors who remember their days sailing on the lagoon, taking "tippy" tests, tying a bowline, singing around the campfire, biking to Edgartown, canoeing to Portside, or getting their annual hashmark. I look forward to hearing from you. Please pass this URL along to any and all former VSCers.

VSC History
Do you know anything about the history of Vineyard Sailing Camp? When it was founded? Who its early Directors' were? What kind of boats they sailed? Word has it that VSC started when a sailing camp on the Cape decided to re-locate to the Vineyard. Fact or Fiction?
What was your favorite sailboat?
